I got my absentee ballot in the mail today. There are more than just the two candidates that everyone seems to be focused on. I knew that of course, but I’m sure there are plenty of other people who don’t. Some of the candidates I had heard of, but Chuck Baldwin was a new name.

Turns out he’s the candidate for the Constitution party. And then I noticed something else. Ron Paul announced his support of Baldwin for President on Monday. Where was that in the news? Maybe Obama better move his people back into North Dakota. If Ron Paul is pushing this guy, he could make a close campaign even closer by pulling votes from McCain. He’s entirely too conservative to pull from Obama, so the extra mix could cause some issues.

After looking at the issues, I can’t say that I will be voting for him. Some of his issues are a little too drastic. And while I don’t believe that what a candidate says are his stances on the issues reflect anything of what he/she will do, or be able to do, once in office, that doesn’t mean I can support them either.

What I would like to see is more non-republican and non-democrat candidates for congress and senate seats. A little something to break up the parties and make it a little more of a challenge for any one party to disrupt things. Why must they always shoot for the top? Haven’t they ever heard of starting from the bottom and building a base first?
