Is Sarah Palin the Cure for the Republican’s Disease?
In the wake of the loss of the McCain/Palin ticket, there have been plenty of pundits and party folk who have been attacking Sarah Palin. They’ve been saying that she may have cost McCain the election and that it was still a horribly poor choice for the VP candidate. I’ve let you know how I feel about that.
Then, on the flip side, we have pundits like Rush Limbaugh and Scott Hennen suggesting that she is the catalyst for the regeneration of the Conservative Republican party. But is she?
I think she may be a cog in the wheel that will get it started, but she certainly isn’t the one that will lead the party there. There will have to be many more of the party leaders working for that same goal in order for it to actually happen. And it won’t happen overnight. Or even in one cycle.
The problem with the McCain/Palin ticket is that McCain was one kind of Maverick and Palin is another entirely. McCain for his venturing into the center aisle and going against the already liberal leadership of the party and Palin for heading further into the wilderness that is conservative republicanism. Mavericks in two different directions.
So, Palin might not be the cure for the disease, but she certainly can help with some of the symptoms. It would be smart for the leadership of the party to find a way for her to play a much bigger role in the party and in the national scene. Perhaps by pushing Stephens out and replacing him with her? Senator Palin anyone?
