Obama Speechwriter Dumps the Dems
It’s not everyday that you get a defection that is this close to the candidates. This story comes to us from Robert108 through Gladnick at NewsBusters through the writer herself at The Daily Beast. Apparently, Wendy Button has become less than enthused with the democrat party and with the way they are running the campaign.
The final straw came the other week when Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher (a.k.a Joe the Plumber) asked a question about higher taxes for small businesses. Instead of celebrating his aspirations, they were mocked. He wasn’t “a real plumber,” and “They’re fighting for Joe the Hedge-Fund manager,” and the patronizing, “I’ve got nothing but love for Joe the Plumber.”
Well, when you have to try and recover from the disaster that was Joe the Plumber, I guess you do it however you have to. She makes a good point shortly thereafter,
The party I believed in wouldn’t look down on working people under any circumstance. And Joe the Plumber is right. This is the absolutely worst time to raise taxes on anyone: the rich, the middle class, the poor, small businesses and corporations.
The democrat party wouldn’t look down on working people. But you have to be careful if you fall on that teetering line between what they think is a working person and what they see as a “wealthy” person. Make $249,999? You poor working class hero! Make $250,000? Why don’t we help you distribute your “excess wealth”?
I don’t want to belittle Wendy. She’s made a decision and certainly has some very valid points as to why she made the decision. But the fact is that a defection this late in the game will likely not make much difference. A difference for her, I’m sure, but not in the grand scheme. At least she’ll have a different perspective in 2012.
